WOMEN'S CAPTAIN UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2026

Women's Section Update

Women's Section Update

As September draws to a close and I am nearing the end of my year as Women’s Captain I want to reflect on what a successful year it has been for our Women’s Section.

We have two teams in the Bristol & District Alliance Leagues. Our A Team play in Division One and are currently in second place with one away match at The Mendip to go. We are 14 points adrift of the current leaders Bristol & Clifton, therefore, we need to win all seven games in the final match to win the league. Best of luck to the team and many thanks to our excellent Captain Sue Vowles for her hard work this season.

The B team are currently sitting in 3rd place in Division Three with two matches to go. It would be a tall order to topple the current leaders who also still have two matches in hand but second place is definitely achievable so good luck to the ‘Bees’ and also many thanks to Tricia Folland for captaining the team so well.

Alison Deakins and Zena Balcombe had a fabulous win in the Somerset County Centenary Plate. Well done both of you.

Roger's Cup

Roger's Cup

Our Roger’s Cup team won four very close rounds to make it to the final against Stockwood Vale. Unfortunately, Stockwood prevailed, but it was a great effort by all of the team who had to give a large number of shots. Many thanks to everyone who has represented the team either by playing or by caddying. A fantastic team effort of which I am very proud.

We also had five matches in the Wessex League which was well captained by Ali Deakins. We won two, lost two and halved one.

We had six Club Friendly matches captained by Zena Balcombe of which we won 4 and lost two. There were also two friendlies on the Channel Course of which we won one and halved one.

Gill Brown, Gemma Pritchard and Jo Stocks all represented the Club in different rounds of the Bristol & District Scratch Foursomes but were beaten in the semi-final by a strong team from Knowle.

As well as our teams doing well, our Women’s Section is going from strength to strength with lots of new members on both courses. Welcome to all of our new members. We hope you will enjoy being at Burnham & Berrow and that your golf game will continue to grow, as well as your social circle.

Pretty In Pink Fun Day

Pretty In Pink Fun Day

We had a Pretty In Pink Fun Day which was well supported and played in a fantastic spirit. It certainly brought a splash of colour on a cloudy day.

Women’s Captain Away Trip

Women’s Captain Away Trip

Thirty two women joined me on the annual Women’s Captain Away Trip in August. This time we were at St Mellion for three days of golf on their two fantastic courses and two nights of food, wine and laughter. It really was such good value for money and is strongly recommended if you haven’t been there. Thank you to all of those who came and made it such a great trip.

Finally, a special mention must be made to our member Mimi Rhodes on her fantastic Solheim Cup Debut. What a star you were Mimi. We were all rooting for you and were so proud of your achievement. I’m sure this won’t be your last Solheim Cup. Well done.

Tracey Marshall – Women’s Captain
