'COLT'

Hole 5

Par 3, 194 Yards, SI 1

Name after Henry Shapland “Harry” Colt. Probably the most respected of all the architects of his day. Accredited with being involved in designing over 300 golf courses worldwide (115 on his own including Sunningdale New and Wentworth East and West) worked predominantly with Charles Alison, John Morrison and Alister MacKenzie forming Colt, Alison and Morrison Ltd in 1928.

Also performed extensive redesigns of Sunningdale Old, Muirfield and Royal Liverpool (Hoylake).

Forming part of Colt’s 1913 proposal the hole was not completed until 1923.

Pro Tip

“The 5th is the first of Burnham & Berrow’s classic par 3 holes. Depending on the wind direction and strength this could be anything from a short iron to a long iron or even a wood. The hole plays exactly as you see it and requires a well-struck shot to find the green. Miss the green and it will be a difficult up and down!”
