SENIORS NOT UP TO THE HOLE.

Burnham & Berrow Seniors –v- Taunton Vale Seniors

This fixture is a one off each year played on alternate venues and it was Taunton Vale Golf Club who hosted this fixture on a day that was not only warm and sticky but with the lack of rain there were some pretty ridiculous bounces when the ball hit the fairways. Quite the opposite could be said of the greens as they were well blessed with lush grass, looking as green as you could wish but extremely slow.  The home team were used to these conditions and naturally took full advantage by running out winning this match by 4 games to 2.

Alan Cook, Seniors Captain, and Clive Collins got the game under way but were unable to put the first point on the board for Burnham & Berrow as they lost their game by 3 & 1.

This was quickly cancelled out when Mike Armstrong and John Schroeder got the better of their opponents when, after being all square after nine, found good form towards the end of their game to win by 2 & 1.

Gerald Webber and Tony Williams gave Burnham the lead in their closely contested game and with four birdies on their card just managed to win 1 up.

Rod Gait and George King were unlucky to find their opponents in fine form and were always playing catch-up, however, it was not to be and they lost 3 & 2.

Trevor Jenkins and Roy Shakespeare went two down early on, recovered, but were equally as unlucky to lose as they were in with a chance for much of the game but they eventually lost 1 down to the last putt on the 18th green. Roy played very well and deserved better.

All hopes rested on the final match where David Phillips and Dick Dare came up against two golfers who were on top of their game, going out in 1 over par and finishing at three over to win by the huge margin of 7 & 5, therefore the game and the match was lost.

The meal was really good, a nice piece of Cod grilled in a Cheese sauce with seasonable vegetables followed by various cheesecakes and the banter better than the result.  The Captains thanked the Staff and praised the course so all ended well for both teams.
