The Channel Course
9th Hole
In 1972 the M5 motorway link between Bristol and Exeter was established and the Club decided that this would be an ideal opportunity to develop a second course.

Fred Hawtree was asked to design the new course, to be called the Channel Course as it lay on the coastal side of the main links, and it was finished in 1977. The layout is excellent with several extremely good holes which vie with some on the Championship Course. The course is approximately 3000 yards long and now has a redesigned 2nd hole and a new 8th hole (by Martin Hawtree). In 2006, nine new tees were added to make a nine hole, 18 tee course that is a real test of ability and a joy to play. Members comment that it is now the second best course in Somerset!

For the first four holes, the course follows the shoreline northwards alongside the reed beds, with the third being a most challenging 195 yard Par 3. With the reed bed hard on the left hand side and the wind veering from the north, just how brave do you feel?

The Channel Course is improving every year and it is strongly recommended that you take the opportunity to take time and enjoy the challenge of the course. Special fee arrangements and season tickets are available for the course. See Green Fee Rates section for details.
