The Channel Course
9th Hole

In 1972 the M5 motorway link between Bristol and Exeter was established and the Club decided that this would be an ideal opportunity to develop a second course.

Fred Hawtree was asked to design the new course, to be called the Channel Course as it lay on the coastal side of the main links, and it was finished in 1977. The layout is excellent with several extremely good holes which vie with some on the Championship Course. The course is approximately 3000 yards long and now has a redesigned 2nd hole and a new 8th hole (by Martin Hawtree). In 2006, nine new tees were added to make a nine hole, 18 tee course that is a real test of ability and a joy to play. Many comment that it is now the second best course in Somerset!

For the first four holes, the course follows the shoreline northwards alongside the reed beds, with the third being a most challenging 195 yard Par 3. With the reed bed hard on the left hand side and the wind veering from the north, just how brave do you feel?

Playing Opportunities

Daily rates:

Ideal for the casual golfer who wants to play only occasionally, or perhaps the senior golfer who only wants 9 holes, we can offer tickets by the round or the day.

Season tickets:

For the more regular golfer wishing to play at any time of the year, season tickets are available for summer, winter or all year. The winter season may be of special interest due to the all year round playability of the course.

Channel Course membership:

Membership of the Channel Course is also available, giving all the benefits of being a member of BBGC together with 12 month playing on the Channel Course.

See Green Fee Rates and Membership sections for further details.

For the competitive golfer we offer regular competitions and roll ups throughout the year. There are Open competitions most weeks. Please phone the Professional Shop to book your time.
